5G got mail!

On Friday 5G received packages from the Jordanian Embassy. In the packages were posters, the Jordan flag, maps, tapestries and other educational materials to decorate our classroom with. 5G are learning about Jordan as part of the upcoming multicultural event ‘Around the World in 30 Classrooms’. 5G will be showcasing and educating the students of Lindfield Public School about Jordan through visual displays, music and a powerpoint. 5G are getting every excited about upcoming multicultural event next week!

Getting inspired by nature!

For the next few weeks 5G will be completing a poetry unit in English. Yesterday 5G went around to the different playgrounds and wrote sentences about what they saw around them. These sentences had to use poetry terms such as personification and similes!

5G’s Pottery Day

Last Friday 5G went to the Pottery room at LPS and learnt how to use clay to make bowls. The students had to learn how to knead the clay, make coils and how to join the pieces of clay together. In a few weeks once the clay has dried, 5G will be painting the bowls using designs inspired by the Middle East.

Project Based Learning Showcase

This term Stage 3 have been researching how different industries can assist communities who have faced a natural disaster.  5A and 5G worked together in mixed teams of four to come up with different solutions. Some of the design solutions that the different groups came up with where houses that could withstand a tsunami, planes that could fly through volcanoes and special shoes that allowed rescuers to walk over lava!  Stage 3 showed off their projects to students across K-2.

Buddy Time!

This year 5G are buddies with 2G. At the end of last term we got together and spoke about the very important message of how everyone is special. After reading a book, everyone made unique fish using colouring in pencils and crayons.

Farewell Stella!

At the end of last term, 5G sadly farewelled Stella. Stella and her family moved back to China and 5G miss her lot! 5G organised a surprise party for Stella where the class brought in food and played whole class games. As a farewell gift the class gave Stella a sketch book and some pencils as she is a very talented artist!

Literacy Groups

This term, 5G students have been participating in novel based Literacy Groups. Each group has been reading a novel and using the Super 6 comprehension strategies to help them understand the characters, plot and to develop their ability to analyse the book. The students work independently on a book contract throughout the week then once week come together to discuss the book so far including any new vocabulary they have come across. The students have been coming up with some very interesting questions about the characters which they have added to the wonder wall about their book.
